Gen Z standing against "Sharenting"

No, they are not Millennials

It is a little annoying that we talk so much about Millennials, generalising and calling them lazy, selfish and disloyal at the workplace. I am personally offended as a Gen Y representative and can assure you this is not the case. We also mistakenly sometimes mean 18-24 year olds, who are no longer Millennials, so with that out of the way...

I would like to talk about Gen Z, the generation after Millennials, born roughly between mid-1990s and 2000s. They are digital natives, and seem to be much more concerned about online privacy than we think. Because they are so well-aware of the cyber space, they take their online privacy just as seriously as the privacy off line. I read in an article somewhere that for Gen Z "Online privacy is like bathroom privacy. Respect it." Which leads me to the point of the post.

"Sharenting"

Millennials often use the opportunity to share information about their family and parenting tips online, often including photos and personal information of their children. Well, Gen Z is not happy about that! In this digital age we live in, identity could easily be faked, stolen, used innapropriately and oversharing is a no-go for this generation, rightly so. Gen Z are standing against their parents having the control over their personal information without their consent. Despite the infamous GDPR, we are not yet ready to protect the personal information of individuals, we are behind the curve with regulation, legislation and security. Still too many unanswered questions. Until then, probably wise to stop "sharenting".

I mean, dear Millennials, you watch Black Mirror, don't you?
